PIZZA. (cue angelic trumpetting)
I've been on an extended "vaca." AFK for awhile, if you will. Just didn't have it in me to post anything. I'm 1 wk away from a move to Oceanside, CA....and ecstatic at that...but moving still sucks. Honestly. I.HATE.MOVING. I've done it too much in the last couple of years.
...some cheese with my whine, please...
Which brings me to this post. PIZZA. Quite possibly one of the best culinary blessings on the planet...if done right. Sadly, I took this gem for granted while in Jersey City/NYC...the end all, be all, mecca o'pizza. Sure, some will argue, how can I possibly make such a claim...? What about Italy - the birthplace of this miracle food? Not for nothing, but i'm told pizza actually originated in Greece. I know. Sacrilege. Whatever the case may be, i've been to Europe, and sorry...but no place makes better pizza than NYC & JC.
As you may imagine, I had no clue in moving to SoCal, that I may never again feast on one of my all time fave foods. I just didn't think about it, really. To my utter surprise, Californians DO NOT know how to make pizza. All the places out here called "New York Pizza..." Do not be fooled. Quite disappointing. After several months of searching and ALWAYS being let down with mediocre fare, Marcos and I stumbled upon NYPD, aka New York Pizza Department.
Totally skeptical after all the "NY" pizza i've had out here, let me just say this place delivered on all counts. Here you have GENUINE NY PIZZA...delicious ingredients & floppy, oozy, hard to handle slices you have to fold to enjoy. OMG. Heaven. This of course, is due in no small part to the fact that the owner is a former Brooklynite. FUHGEDABOUDIT. On to ambiance...let's just say, missing home, I love coming here. NY sports memorabilia, Broadway playbills and Metro Cards decorate the walls. ::sigh:: I miss subways, lol...
I'm always excited to come across former East Coasters out here and now, when I do, I point them...nay, I shove 'em violently in the direction of NYPD. Located right on the 15 fwy in Corona at the Eagle Glen Shopping compound....You NEED to go there. I'm talking to my fellow NJ/NYers...well, really, i'm talking to you Californians. You don't know pizza till you've tried a real deal NY pizza.
Thank me later ;p
Cheers!
